MP backs inventor's bike storage system

A WESTCOUNTRY inventor believes he has found one solution to getting more of us out of our cars and on to two wheels.

Jason Hamlyn, from Plymouth, hopes his BikeAway bicycle storage system will overcome problems faced by cyclists riding to work or to the shops.

He says the cabinet keeps a cyclist's equipment dry and secure, takes up two-thirds the space of existing models, and costs about a third of the price.

South West Devon MP Gary Streeter helped to launch the BikeAway cabinets, being built at Westwood Automation factory in Newnham, Plymouth.  Mr Streeter was so impressed with the cabinets that he wants them introduced for MP's use at Parliament.

Sainsbury is said to be interested in installing them at several stores and Mr Hamlyn is close to securing an order with Plymouth City Council for 50 cabinets, for use in schools.

The BikeAway cabinet is a possible Millennium Product for celebrations at the Dome in Greenwich next year.
