Bike Lockers to beat Thefts

Bid to get more people on two wheels

More lockers where bicycles can be left in safety have been introduced in Kirklees streets.
The move is being made in a bid to encourage more people to use two wheels.
Kirklees Council said the lack of secure parking for cycles was a common deterrent.
There are already cycle lockers at several railway stations and sports centres throughout Kirklees and outside Queensgate multi-storey car park in Huddersfield.
In the 20 new steel lockers, the bikes are stored in a vertical position taking up minimal floorspace.
Cyclists need their own padlock to secure the locker.

Clr David Payne, the Council cabinet member with responsibility for the environment and transportation, said: "These smart new lockers are of a great design. We hope to encourage more people to make short utility journeys by bike to their local sports centre or town centre for shopping."

 Locations of the new cycle lockers are:

Brook Street, Huddersfield;
Colne Valley Leisure Centre, Slaithwaite;
Holmfirth Pool / Sands Recreation Ground, Holmfirth;
McAlpine Stadium, Huddersfield;
Huddersfield Road, Mirfield;
Station Road, Mirfield, near the railway station;
SpenPeak Physique, next to Spenborough Pool, Cleckheaton;
Whitcliffe Mount Sports Centre, Cleckheaton.

 Four lockers are at the McAlpine Stadium and two at each of the other sites.
